Program Manager - Cargo Systems Tech

A. Job Purpose

A highly skilled and proactive Senior Manager with deep expertise in airline cargo systems and digital platforms. This role demands strong leadership, strategic thinking, and the ability to drive end-to-end execution of cargo technology initiatives, including booking, tracking, revenue management, and integration with global logistics partners. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional stakeholder management skills and experience in implementing modern cargo solutions, automation, and AI-driven optimization.


B. Key Accountabilities

Strategic Activities:

  • Lead and manage the full lifecycle of cargo system projects – from strategy to implementation.
  • Own accountability for platform upgrades, integrations, and operational efficiency.
  • Drive strategic conversations with cargo business units, translating operational needs into technical solutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including cargo operations, engineering, and external vendors.
  • Ensure compliance with aviation industry standards and IATA cargo regulations.
  • Champion automation and AI-driven optimization for cargo capacity planning and dynamic pricing.
  • Prepare and present executive-level updates, dashboards, and performance metrics.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

C. Skills Required for the Role

  • Preferred: Hands-on experience with cargo management systems (e.g., CHAMP, IBS iCargo, Accelya).
  • Strong understanding of cargo booking, tracking, and revenue management processes.
  • Good technical understanding of APIs, data flows, and system architecture.
  • Experience in AI-driven forecasting and optimization for cargo operations.
  • Familiarity with EDI messaging standards (Cargo-IMP, Cargo-XML).

E. Key Interfaces

Internal Interfaces:

  • Leadership & Stakeholders: Provide regular updates to management on technical analysis progress, issues, and risks, and seek approval for any change in plans as needed.
  • Project & Other Teams: Collaborate closely with project teams including developers, testers, and project managers to ensure smooth deployment of projects. Collaborate with the security team to address any security concerns or vulnerabilities during deployment and ensure that proper security measures are in place.

External Interfaces:

  • Vendors & Suppliers: Coordinate with external vendors and suppliers to manage tasks and support for deployment, such as software configuration, development, testing, or third-party services.

F. Educational and Experience Requirements

Minimum Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as computer science, information technology, business, or project management.

Experience:

  • 8+ years of experience in cargo systems or airline technology.
  • Proven expertise in implementing and managing cargo platforms.
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent communication and analytical abilities.
  • Certifications in project management (PMP, Agile) preferred.
