  1. Job Purpose
  • To manage and refine Air India’s flight scheduling process, ensuring it aligns with operational capabilities and commercial strategies to optimize aircraft utilization and profitability.
  • To lead the strategic scheduling initiatives that accommodate seasonal, operational, and market-driven adjustments, maximizing efficiency and revenue.
  1. Key Accountabilities

Strategic Scheduling Development

  • Design and continually refine the flight schedules by coordinating with the Network Planning, Operations, and Engineering teams to ensure optimal aircraft usage.

Schedule Optimization

  • Utilize advanced scheduling software to refine schedules continuously, based on aircraft availability, market demands, and operational requirements. Oversee the monitoring and analysis of performance metrics to drive continuous improvements.
  • Implement schedule adjustments based on changes in business requirements, operational constraints, and regulatory compliance, focusing on maximizing revenue and minimizing operational costs.

Slot Management Coordination

  • Work closely with the Head - Slots to secure and optimize airport slots essential for executing the business plan.

Competitor and Market Analysis

  • Monitor competitors’ schedules and capacity, developing strategic responses to maintain competitive advantage and explore new market opportunities.

Team Leadership and Development

  • Provide direction and support to the scheduling team, fostering skill development and ensuring high performance.

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with Operations to ensure that schedule changes are operationally feasible and optimized for cost efficiency.

  • Report directly and align scheduling strategies with broader network planning initiatives.

Sales and Revenue Management

  • Engage to align additions to the network and schedule on a regular basis and monitor route performance

Air India Express

  • Engage to ensure that group network strategy is being adhered to and network additions are well coordinated

Revenue Management and Pricing

  • Collaborate closely to integrate schedule and network changes with pricing strategies, optimizing revenue based on demand forecasting and market dynamics.

Customer Excellence

  • Engage to ensure that network change communications are aligned

Engineering

  • Coordinate to ensure that the network plan is operationally feasible, aligning flight schedules with aircraft availability.

Airport Operations

  • Coordinate to ensure that the network plan is operationally feasible, aligning flight schedules with airport resource availability

Operations
(Cabin Crew, Pilots, Inflight Services, IOCC etc..)

  • Coordinate to ensure that the network plan is operationally feasible, aligning flight schedules with crew and aircraft availability.

External Interfaces

Airport Authorities

  • Negotiate and manage relationships along with Slots and Seasonal Scheduling Team to secure necessary slots and operational support.

 

  1. Educational and Experience Requirements

Minimum Education Requirement

  • Bachelor’s degree in Operations, Business Administration or Aviation Management or a closely related field is required. A Master’s degree in a related field is preferred.

  • 8+ years’ experience in the aviation industry, with scheduling management role within a major airline.
  • 10 years’ experience in the aviation industry with at least 5+ years of extensive experience in network planning and scheduling, with a proven track record in optimizing complex flight schedules.
