Associate Manager - Cargo Operations
Job Description
A. Key Accountabilities
Core roles & Responsibilities
- Monitor routine cargo operations, address irregularities, and ensure comprehensive reporting.
- Drive monthly performance reviews by tracking Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) of GHAs of assigned stations
- Manage routine station inspections, both remotely and onsite, to ensure compliance with established standards.
- Drive data consolidation and analysis to drive operational insights.
- Monitor and report on deviations to operational Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), safety protocols, and regulatory guidelines.
- Drive seamless communication between internal teams and Ground Handling Agents (GHAs) to ensure efficient cargo operations.
- Provide any guidance required to GHAs in alignment with Air India’s operational standards.
Operations Long Term Planning
- Drive budgeting and resource requirement on annual basis and track implementation of the same for given region.
Operational Performance Monitoring
- To monitor and review cargo operations performance for assigned stations along with regional cargo teams on periodic basis – operational KPIs, FSUs, failures/discrepancies to ensure they adhere to Air India’s standards for operational performance, safety, efficiency, and customer satisfaction
- To provide HQ oversight in case of operational escalations and provide focused support and coordination for rapid mitigation and recovery.
- To visit stations on periodic basis to inspect ground operations and assess process gaps, infrastructure issues etc. and formulate improvement action items
Process Optimization
- Identify opportunities to optimize cargo operations, implement best practices, and reduce costs, contributing to overall operational improvements.
Operations Strategy Implementation
- To support in implementation of operational excellence strategies, cost optimization measures to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of cargo operations.
- Provide support in implementing other strategic policies and initiatives.
Emergency Response and Contingency Planning: ·
- Develop and implement contingency plans for unexpected events or disruptions in ground handling services. · Coordinate with relevant parties to ensure a swift and effective response to emergencies.

C. Educational and Experience Requirements
Minimum Education Requirement
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field. A degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or Aviation Management can also be suitable.
Experience (Minimum)
- 5-6 years of experience in cargo operations, logistics, supply chain, transportation, preferably with experience in air cargo handling.
Experience (Desired)
- 8+ years of experience in cargo operations, logistics, supply chain, transportation, preferably with experience in air cargo handling with a focus on cargo operations and performance management.
- Candidates should have a proven track record of operations supervision and cargo management with demonstrable experience in driving operations efficiency and effectiveness.
- Ideal candidates should demonstrate strong industry know-how and understanding of related process, systems, automation, and technology integration in cargo operations.
